Buying

Some things I do when buying a bird:

  • Avoid that amazing deal, think things through. Common sense seems to go out the window for some trying to beat others to that "amazing deal".
  • Understand the market. Nobody is going to sell a black palm cockatoo for $300. If they are, why?
  • Ask for references asking for private responses.
  • Get things in writing. Verbal agreements mean nothing.
  • Take the bird to the vet in a timely manner. (i.e. 48 hours after purchase)
  • Decide beforehand on a safe payment method. There are ways to protect yourself in a purchase, take advantage of them. Even if it costs you a little bit more for a middle man, it's better to be out 10% of a bad sale than it is to be out 100%.
